Editor'south note: Nvidia's revealed that the it will be updating the GTX 1060 to support its new ray tracing engineering science. The company confirmed it will release a commuter to add the support in April at its GDC Keynote earlier in March. The support is limited to Direct 10 titles, so it won't work on every game.

I have started to test two models that are physically identical (only with the different number of CUDA cores and memory) and so far the results are largely as expected.
The 3GB model appears to be between two% and 10% slower than the 6GB version in almost games I tested, although there is an outlier in the grade of Rise of the Tomb Raider that resulted in a 1440p benchmark that was nearly twenty% slower.
